How EV and Hybrid Service Differ from Standard Car Service

If you're the new owner of an electric vehicle or hybrid vehicle, you may be curious about the differences in maintenance between EV service and the standard service you'd need with a gasoline-powered car.

Although these vehicles look similar, there are some mechanical differences that mean different needs, and even different maintenance intervals. No matter what you drive, the dealerships of Hall | MileOne Autogroup will ensure optimal performance and safety.

All About Hybrid Service

As their name suggests, hybrids combine all the components of a gas-powered vehicle with the components typically found in an EV, like a battery pack and electric motor. So, on one hand, you'll need to complete many service tasks you're already familiar with, such as car battery service, brake service, tire alignment, and oil changes.

While you'll be getting service on roughly the same schedule as a gasoline-powered car, with many of the same auto parts, you'll find some components in a Toyota Highlander Hybrid that its non-hybrid counterpart wouldn't have. These include not only the electric motor, but also items like a battery filter that keeps particulate matter away from the battery pack.

On the positive side, you'll save on a few service tasks, such as brake pad replacement since the regenerative braking system leads to lower brake wear.

EV Service Explained

Buying a new electric vehicle might be more expensive than a gasoline-powered car at first, but you'll find significant long-term savings on both fuel and maintenance costs. Owners of EVs don't have to worry about many of the maintenance tasks like oil changes, spark plug replacement, or belts and hoses replacement that you would expect from vehicles with internal-combustion engines.

However, there are still service tasks that you have to keep up with to ensure your vehicle functions properly. Expect to still need tire rotation, wiper blade replacements, battery inspections, and other key items on much the same basis.
