Buying used cars is one of the best ways to save money while also getting a new-to-you vehicle. Here at Hall | MileOne Autogroup, we have a wide selection of used cars, sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, and more from a variety of different automakers.

One of the most common questions that our dealers receive is surrounding the ideal number of miles for a used car. Here is what you should look for when buying used.

What Is an Ideal Mileage?

There is no such thing as the ideal mileage for a used car. While as a general rule it’s true that cars with fewer miles will be in better condition, you cannot base your entire buying decision on mileage alone. Some cars with 120,000 miles will be in better condition than cars with only 50,000 miles because the lower mileage car will have been in an accident, or the previous driver may have neglected regular maintenance or used non-OEM car parts.

Is It Smart to Buy a Used Car with High Mileage?

Many people avoid buying used cars with high mileage because there is a perception that they are riskier and more prone to failure. However, cars today are designed to last longer, and if the previous owner of the used car followed the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule, the car may last longer than you would otherwise expect.

Also, when you buy a car that has high mileage, the depreciation curve has already flattened, and it will not decrease in value rapidly, the way a new car would.
